Cardiac Disorders
Aneurysm : An Aneurysm or Aneurism is the widening or ballooning of
a portion of an artery caused by the disease or the weakening of the vessel
wall. Aneurysm can occur in Aorta (the major artery from the heart), brain
(cerebral aneurysm), leg (popliteal artery aneurysm), Intestine (mesenteric
artery aneurysm) and Splenic artery aneurysm. If it occurs near the heart it
is called a thoracic aortic aneurysm. It is usually seen that 75% of
Aneurysm occurs in the abdomen. The causes of Aneurysm is still nor clear.
However defects in some part of the artery and high blood pressure are
thought to be the contributing factors. While some of the Aneurysms are
present by birth.
Angina : Angina refers to the chest pain that results when an area
of the heart muscle does not receive enough oxygen rich blood. It usually
occurs when pressure is built upon the heart during exercise, stress,
exposure to cold or even digestion of large meals. Angina is not a disease,
it is a symptom of Coronary Artery Disease, the most common type of a heart
disease.
Arrhythmias/Abnormal Heart Rhythms : The abnormal and irregular
heart beat is Arrhythmias. When the heart beats too quickly it is called
tachycardia, that is caused by underlying cardiovascular problem. On the
other side slower heart beats are called as bradycardia that are usually
caused by the electrical heart blocks. All these problems are the sign that
the heart has been damaged.
Atrial Fibrillation : Atrial Fibrillation or
cardiac arrhythmia occurs when the heart's two small upper chambers quiver
instead of beating properly. One can live with the Atrial Fibrillation but
the chances of stroke and more serious heart rhythm disturbances increases.
Congestive Heart Failure : Congestive Heart Failure is the situation
in which heart is unable to deliver enough blood and oxygen to the body's
other organs. Congestive Heart Failure can be caused by diseases that weaken
the heart muscles or hardens the heart muscles. When this problems occurs
fluid can build up in your body, especially in the lungs making it very
difficult to breath.
Coronary Artery Disease : Coronary Artery Disease or atherosclerotic
heart disease occurs when the arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle
become hardened and narrowed. In coronary artery disease atheromatous
plagues deposits on the walls of arteries that weaken the heart muscle and
contribute to the heart failure and arrhythmia.
Heart Attack : A heart attack or myocardial infarction occurs when
blood supply to the part of heart is blocked. It happens when coronary
arteries that supply the heart with blood become clogged from a build up of
cells, calcium and cholesterol. It the flow of the blood isn't restored
quickly, the section of the heart muscle begins to die.
Cardiac Surgery : Cardiac Surgery is the field involved in the
surgical treatment of diseases affecting the heart. It is oftenly done to
treat complications of ischemic heart disease such as coronary artery,
correct congenital heart disease, congestive heart failure, valvular heart
disease, Angina and heart attack. It also involves heart transplantation,
open heart surgery, modern beating heart surgery, minimally invasive surgery
etc.
