Calicut Medical College, the second medical college in Kerala, was established in 1957 and since its inception it has been a pioneer in providing health services. Stretching in a very lush expanse the campus is locate amidst picturesque surroundings. It has been affiliated to the University of Calicut.

It was inaugurated by Dr. A.R. Menon, the Kerala Health Minister in 1957. The main collegiate hospital with 1183 beds was commissioned in 1966 and the Institute of Maternal and Child Health with 610 beds was commissioned in 1975. An artificial limb Center, a Casualty Complex, Chest Hospital, Samraksha Kendram, Vishrama Kendram, College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy are added to the institution. A well equipped Medical Education Unit has also started.
The college also publishes Calicut Medical Journal which has become the top accessed Indian Biomedical Journals and one of the most noticed worldwide.
